We flew into the US from London today. We really enjoyed our trip, but we are glad to be home. We had a little hang-up in London airport - it was our own fault. We had a few items taken because they were over 100 ml. (I'm not sure how many ounces that is but it's close to 3) I had separated our liquids and lotions and put them in a Ziploc bag and had that out going through security. I had forgotten that there were a few larger items in our carry-on case including Reed's contact lens solutions. We usually don't take a carry on suitcase, so I forgot that there were liquids in there. No one to blame but ourselves.
One thing I forgot to mention that we saw on Sunday, 9/21/14, at Salisbury cathedral was one of the original copies of the Magna Carta written in 1216. The magna carta was a list of rights written for the common man by the Barons during the feudal system of Lords and serfs - It's purpose was to limit the king's power and protect the rights of the underlings. King John agreed to it and signed it and then a short while later regretted it and asked Pope Innocente III to rescind it. Well, it eventually was upheld and this document is the basis for many other great documents such as the British Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the US. It was another item in history that we enjoyed learning about.
From Reed - I loved our time in England and France. I am always humbled when I travel abroad. I am proud to be an American, although I am not always proud of what some Americans do. When I am in European nations, I am reminded that the United States is a relative teenager compared to some other nations. We think that something 100 or 200 or even 300 years old is really old. I was amazed how many things we saw were 900 years old and going strong. My highlights in London were Buckingham Palace, the Royal Castle of Windsor and the London Eye. My Paris highlights were the Eiffel Tower, our close up with the Mona Lisa and the bells of Notre Dame. My southern England highlights were the two lighthouses I saw with Jan, the tremendous pipe organs in the Rochester Cathedral and the Canterbury Cathedral, the many charity shops we visited in Tenterdon, and,the awesome Stonehenge! Now back to our humble little town of Princeton, Texas. .
I don't have any pictures from today to share, so here are a couple of my favorites..... and thanks for reading!
