We arrived safely in London Heathrow airport about 6:30 a.m. London time. (that's about 6 hours ahead of central time, I think). We very much enjoyed all the amenities of first class flying, but we still were not able to sleep. We had the seats that completely recline and blanket, pillow, eye mask to black out light, but we did not sleep at all.
Our taxi driver took us to Brasted in Kent--a 35 minute drive from London. Brasted is a picturesque little English village with a lot of old buildings. We are staying in the "Old Manor House" (top center picture) which is 500 years old. All the rooms have exposed beam ceilings and quaint furnishings.
The lower right picture is of a building of apartment homes, but it is so old that it looks like the roof is going to cave in - the lines of the house are all crooked --and the apartments are for sale!
You'll also notice the blue door - there are several here - a blue door brings good luck to the home. They intrigue me. Might just paint my front door blue...
Reed is wearing a jacket - it is about 60 degrees here and partly cloudy. The natives say we're having a bit of a summery September. So I guess that means 60 degrees and no rain.
There is a coffee shop right across the street from our B&B called "Tarte". We have already had latte's there and it's pretty good.
I have to be very careful with lactose here, there is butter and cream everywhere. When we get to Paris it's going to be "sans beurre, sans lait, et sans fromage!! s'il vous plait!!"
I may have to fast in Paris as butter, milk and cheese are their signature foods!
